Your dreams will be just that if you don’t take action – just a dream and not reality. We all have wishes and dreams. We all have goals. These are thought about and talked about in full detail. “I’m going to own a yacht someday and travel the world. I’ll spend one year preparing and then will spend one year on the ocean…”
“I’m going to start my own business. I’ll work online each evening for two hours while the kids are asleep. I’ll create a blog first and then if that does well, I’ll take it to a full website. Then I can start charging for my services on a part time basis. After a few months of this, I’ll be able to put in my notice of resignation.”
“I’ve always loved to bake. My coworkers love the cookies and cupcakes that I bring to our office parties. Someday I’ll start my own bakery and catering business. The location will be downtown in the quaint history downtown and I can get all my ingredients from the nearby farmer’s market. It will only cost me…”
So your dreams are there in full details and yet they are still just dreams. When asked why they aren’t happening, many of you answer, “Well, I have to pay the bills, the kids are taking all my time, you don’t understand that it’s just not that easy… if and when I have some spare time, when I make some money…”
Yet you’ve started putting things in place to make your dreams come true but somehow you don’t follow through. The filing of the new business has been completed as well as paying the new LLC filing fee. You have your part time help waiting for you to give the word to begin. You’ve paid for the domain name and have sent your web designer the 50% down. And so on…
Yet then it stops. The dream ended before it really began. What happened? Here are three top reasons why people don’t make their dreams a reality:
1. People stop short of making their dreams happen because it requires work.
When dreams go from just dreams to reality, action is required. Work and dedication is needed. Whether it is your own labor or the work of training someone else to do it, it’s work. And people don’t like that for whatever reason – lack of time, having to come up with additional money and other resources, etc.
The best way to resolve this is to first make sure that what you want to do is also your passion. If you’re dreaming of opening a coffee shop and you don’t like coffee and don’t like serving people beverages and snacks then, obviously, this is not something you’re going to work at making happen.
If it is your passion, write down the steps and things that you are already doing each day. Take a look at what you write down and you’ll see that you’re already doing the work that is required. Examine what you’ve listed and see what needs to be improved. Take action on this and also focus on where you want to be in the next few months, few years. Take action and stay focused.
2. Too many people are already doing what you dream of doing.
You’re focused on the fact that too many people are already doing what you dream of doing so there is too much competition. There is no more room for another chef or accountant or entrepreneur, you say.
The solution to this is that there is only one YOU. The way that you do things is different than how others do things. So what if you’re the 20,000,000 teacher on this planet? You have your unique style and way of teaching. Find your niche, develop it, market and promote it, and reach those who need and want that niche. One example is that there may be many chefs out there but you can be the chef that stands out because of your customized cupcakes that offer special designs and messages for different events.
3. Your dreams are stopped because people say they can’t come true and that you’ll never make it.
Your mother tells you to focus on reality. Your significant other says that you will never make it as an musician. Your colleague says it’s impossible.
The solution: Don’t listen and follow those who say it can’t be done. Find those who have done or are doing what you dream of doing and follow them. Read books and watch videos of those you admire. Take classes, attend seminar, and network with those who are making the dream possible.
And there you have the top three reasons people don’t follow their dreams. So start making your dreams come true by focusing on the number one solution to making your dreams come true is by taking ACTION.
