The Marathon of Life is won with single strides – The choices we make each day determines our future
Each and every day as we travel this thing that we call life, if you are watching you see the results of bad decisions people have made and then have to now suffer the consequences. And along the way you see people who always seem to make good choices and likewise reap the good fruits of wise decisions. As a student of human nature I always look at individuals and wonder how did they get here?
No one can escape the forces of life and how these forces mold and form our personalities and circumstances. The truth is that all our choices pay dividends whether good or bad. We feel for those who have a run of bad luck or were wronged by the system but how are they different from those who won life’s lottery. If you look at the paths each has chosen it is hard to see anything that stands out as much as the chooses that individuals, including ourselves, have made.
Maybe if it is not education or upbringing that makes these people what they are but it was truly that happenstance is an undeniable force that often makes or breaks the lives as they flow down the River Destiny and we just hope for the best and even pray, if you are of that mindset.
I would like to suggest that the life-changing good and bad decisions are not always obvious to us as we make them but are often small and seem insignificant at the time. If you would use the analogy of life as a marathon, we take steps each and every day. Things like choosing to smoke or do drugs might make huge differences as we finish our marathon dying of cancer or aids and if not, running the risks of health issues and side effects. If we can’t say no to something like eating too much and suffer from obesity and health-related issues as well as a lack of well being. Or maybe it is just how we chose to live and treat others that make us winners not in life’s lottery, but life’s marathon, one step at a time.
